After last night's episode of LOST "Across the Sea." My crack pot theory is that Charles Whidmore wants to throw Desmond down the light well to put the light out, which may create the sideway's world.

"The Constant" - Top Ten TV Episodes from TIME

1. Lost, "The Constant"

At its best, Lost rips your heart out while it ties your brain in a knot. This season 4 episode did both expertly. Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) has been experiencing premonitions of the future since becoming "unstuck in time" (a la Slaughterhouse Five) earlier in the series. It turns out that he's been time-traveling, or rather, his mind has: his consciousness is journeying between present, future and past. (It makes sense when you watch, trust me.) The unfortunate side effects of this condition are madness and death, avoidable only by focusing on a "constant": a person or thing present in each time one's consciousness visits. Desmond's constant, he learns, is Penny (Sonya Walger), the girlfriend he left behind when he was stranded on Lost's mysterious island. His journey into his own past to find her in the present is tear-jerking and mind-blowing.

My Lostmole reports that Lance Reddick (a.k.a. corporate recruiter Matthew Abaddon, as well as Fringe's Phillip Broyles) was just spotted in Hawaii shooting what I assume is episode 5.6. Meanwhile, the show is casting the likely recurring role of Hal, a white dude in his 70s who can still fight the establishment and win. Team Darlton is also on the prowl for an actor to play Mike, a thirtysomething scientist who's on the brink of something big. An authentic Czech accent is required. (Of course, when isn't it?)

Doc Jensen does his usually analysis of the Constant as welll as get some answers confirmed by Damon.

In ''The Constant,'' Desmond became ''unstuck in time'' after flying through a thundercloud crackling with strange electricity. He experienced something like time travel, though not bodily time travel; instead, his consciousness shuttled between two different time periods, Island present 2004 and Desmond's past 1996. But here's the tricky twist: Desmond's Island-present mind wasn't the one doing the time traveling. When Desmond got hit with Island magic, his consciousness got knocked off-line and was replaced by his 1996 self. It was this older Desmond consciousness that toggled between present and past throughout the episode. Once Desmond '96 completed the errand of getting Penny's phone number so he could call her on Christmas Eve 2004, Desmond's present-day mind came back online, but rebooted with the new memories created by his time-travel adventure. I know: tricky stuff. But I had the chance to run all this by Damon Lindelof — and he says this interpretation is correct.

This is a Kate centric Flash Forward also featuring future Jack. Kate is identified specifically as one of the Oceanic 6 with the fame and notoriety. She is put on trial for the laundry list of ways she's broken the laws. I thought she'd get off because she was now rich like Sayid, but it wasn't that at all. She was remanded to federal custody. Jack testifies and lies for her saying that she saved the lives of the 6 survivors of the crash and attempting to save 2 others that initially survived the crash. Her sick mom, who I thought was already dead, came to visit here and sad that she's had six months to live for 4 years now. She wanted to make a deal to not testify so she could see Kate's son. Kate wanted no part of that. Her mom doesn't testify which is the main part of teh prosecution's case, and the make a plea deal. Kate is sentenced to time served, 10 years probation, and she can't leave the island. She's about to leave through a back exit, when Jack (driving the same vehicle as crazy bearded Jack) comes up and talks with her. Which made me briefly think that this was his baby that she was going back to. He still loves her and wants to go for coffee, but he doesn't want to see the baby, so Kate won't do it. Kate goes home and who we assume is the nanny is taking care of her son, Aaron.

QUESTIONS:
Why Aaron with Kate?
Why and How does everyone think he is her son?
Is he considered one of the Oceanic 6?
What happened to Claire? I think she's dead.
What happened to Kate's mom to make her live so long, was Jacob involved?


MY THEORY:
I called into Jay and Jack's Podcast with this tonight after the show. I think that since all of Desmond's flashes involve death, Clarie on the helicopter was a flash of her death not rescue. Desmond had a flash in which Claire drowned, and all of the flashes for Charlie involved death (lighting, drowning trying to save Claire, arrow, drowning), Naomi would have died in the tree had she not been given treatment and eventually died. I think Clarie will die as well. Let's just hope Des doesn't have any other flashes of our beloved LOSTies anytime soon.

In the "Pearls of Wisdom" section of LOST Magazine #10, Damon confirms that Desmond did travel in time back to 1996. Just thought I'd share.

So, be it in a consciousness, physical, or in whatever way, did Desmond travel through time back to 1996 in that episode? (Paul Williams)
